The Sunshine Coast: A Beautiful Place to Live

The Sunshine Coast is a beautiful region located on the east coast of Australia. It is known for its stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and relaxed lifestyle. The climate is temperate year-round, with relatively mild winters and warm summers. The Sunshine Coast is divided into five sub-regions: Noosa, Hinterland, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, and Caloundra. Each sub-region has its own unique character and attractions.

The region is home to a variety of landscapes, including beaches, rainforests, mountains, and waterways. The beaches are some of the most beautiful in Australia, with white sand and clear blue water. The hinterland is home to a diverse range of plant and animal life, including koalas, kangaroos, and many birds.

We are spoilt for choice from the adventurous types exploring the hinterland to just chilling on any of the numerous beaches on offer. These are just some of the reasons why my family chose to live in this beautiful region.

House Designs for the Sunshine Coast

With the temperate climate, numerous sub-regions and a relaxed lifestyle, the Sunshine Coast offers an opportunity for a variety of house designs. My personal favourites are the coastal design and acreage homes with external cladding, VJ panels, French windows, sliding doors and open plan living.

The coastal and acreage designs perfectly complement the Sunshine Coast lifestyle because they are designed to take advantage of the mild climate and bring in nature. These homes are airy with numerous windows so as to fill rooms with natural light and let the breeze in.

These designs can allow natural airflow, it decreases cost of living as you don’t have to have the air conditioning on all summer. Sliding or bifold doors allow you to open up your living areas and have that indoor/outdoor feel that is so very quintessential for the Queensland lifestyle. “Lawson” by AUSMAR and “Hamptons homestead” are perfect examples of home designs that respond to the Sunshine Coast lifestyle.

Open Plan Living: Open plan living is a must for the QLD lifestyle, It’s a shared family space where meal preparation can be carried out while interacting with the family. Not having a separate kitchen, dining and living areas means that the family space is maximised, making the home feel much larger and more airy.

Alfresco: Having very mild winters means that on the Sunshine Coast we put an emphasis on outdoor entertaining as we are able to spend most of our year outdoors. Covered outdoor areas can protect you from the QLD sun and allow you to enjoy outdoor dining all year round. You will find that many homes on the Sunshine Coast now incorporate an outdoor BBQ and kitchen area.

VJ Panelling and Cladding: VJ panelling is also widely used in this region, they add to the ‘coastal’ feel and add character to a modern beach house. VJ Panelling can be used as a feature wall, or even to cover the whole ceiling, like in my home. VJ Panelling is a relatively inexpensive way to add value to a property.

Cladding is one of those classic external materials for a coastal and acreage home. It offers timeless elegance while at the same time protecting the exterior of a home from the elements. It can be made from a variety of materials, however for modern homes is typically made from a weather-resistant material that can withstand the sun, rain, and wind.
