First Home Buyers in QLD: 2025's Top Incentives Revealed

If you're a first home buyer in Queensland, 2025 is shaping up to be the most promising year yet to get into the property market. With a series of new and extended government initiatives now in place, you could save tens of thousands of dollars and move into your first home sooner.

1. $30,000 First Home Owner Grant – extended

The Queensland Government recently extended the First Home Owner Grant, giving eligible buyers a $30,000 boost when building or buying a new home or off-the-plan property.

That’s $30,000 you can put toward your deposit, construction costs, or upgrades - a major helping hand, especially in today's market.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be building or buying a brand new home
  • Live in the home as your principal place of residence
  • Meet the income and property value criteria set by the government

2. Stamp duty abolished for first home buyers

As of 1 May 2025, stamp duty has been abolished for first home buyers purchasing a new build in Queensland.

On a $600,000 home, that’s a saving of more than $11,000 - a game-changer when every dollar counts.

This change is designed to remove one of the biggest financial barriers facing first time home buyers in Queensland and encourage more people to buy brand new homes that meet today’s energy and design standards.

3. Boost to buy shared equity scheme

The newest initiative - Boost to Buy - is a government-backed shared equity scheme that helps eligible first home buyers enter the market with as little as a 2% deposit.

Here’s how it works:

  • The government contributes up to 30% of the purchase price for new homes
  • You contribute just 2% deposit
  • Available on homes valued up to $1 million
  • Open to singles earning up to $150,000, or couples earning up to $225,000

Applications open 1 July 2025, with the scheme set to support up to 1,000 buyers across Queensland.
