The Glades Long House is a modern and artistic recreational building located within the Halcyon Glades Over 50s Community in Caboolture. The building and surrounding recreational facilities have been designed to offer residents a grand space to rest, relax and enjoy the outdoors. The Long House is the hub of the recreational area where a pitched, glass entrance set the tone for an impressive space.
To one side, a bank of windows creates a seamless connection with the outdoors, while the pitched ceiling simply lifts the room and creates a bright, welcoming and open space for all to enjoy. At one end of the building stands a grand stone-clad fireplace and at the other end is a wall of stunning timber feature portals. The dramatic timber columns were made on site with workers moving about 185 tonnes of timber by hand to create the striking feature piece.
To the other side of the building stands the most theatrical element of the Long House; the monolithic rammed earth wall. Made from sand, clay, stone and cement, the wall isn’t only visually stunning it is also fireproof, good for the environment and offers excellent thermal mass to help improve temperature control.
Delivered on time within 12 months, the main building features a commercial kitchen, function room, games room and cinema, but the build also included a range of recreation facilities such as a 25-metre heated pool, flood-lit tennis courts, champion size bowling green and pickleball court, plus herb and vegetable gardens.
